Daniel 11:32 He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant, but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action.
As it was in the days of Antiochus, so it is in our days. It was politically and personally expedient to surrender to the prevailing culture and pressure and abandon the faith in those days. It would have meant an ‘easier’ life. It would have meant being spared of persecution.
We face the same pressures today. We are seduced by money, comfort, success, acceptance, etc. We risk being labelled ‘bigoted’ or other derogatory terms if we dare take a stand for our beliefs. Yet like the people of old, we are challenged to stand firm in our beliefs, and we are encouraged to continue engaging in God’s redemptive work in history.
Central to this is the key question: do we know our God? Do we know that He is in sovereign control of all things, working out His covenantal plan of salvation for all nations? Do we know that He has chosen us and blessed us, so that we might be a blessing? If so, let us recognise the signs of our times, resist the temptations to abandon our faith, and walk in the ways of our God. Amen.
